Are you looking for Card Making Embellishments?   Welcome to Card Making Embellishments.net  for all the information you need.

Card making embellishments are the items you use to decorate your cards and set your card apart from a standard store bought card.  Most store bought cards are flat but by using embellishments you can add dimension and interest to your cards.

The more you work with embellishments the more you will develop your own style of card making but the key to success is to keep trying out different card making techniques and styles.

When it comes to choosing which embellishment to use on your card you will be spoilt for choice.   Banners, labels, tags, crystal gems and jewels, flowers, ribbon, brads, eyelets, buttons and themed toppers- they are all out there for you to choose from.   They come in all sorts of shapes, sizes and types.   You will be able to find something that will exactly suit the mood of the card  whatever you are making, whether it be a funky and fun or pastel and pretty.

Card making Embellishments

The most popular card making embellishments by category are:

Banners and Tags:   These are great for adding a message to your greetings card.

Brads:  These are the card making version of old fashioned paper fasteners. They come in different shapes, different sizes and a rainbow of colours. They can be used directly on the card or can be used to fix other elements to the card.

Buttons:  This is a particularly popular form of embellishment. They can be either glued directly to your card or they can be sewn on.

Crystal Gems and Jewels:  These are flat backed gems so they can fix easily to your handmade card. Sometimes they can be self adhesive, but if they are not, a drop of PVA glue or silicone glue will fix them securely to your card. Adding a bit of bling to your project is always effective.

Eyelets:  These are created using a special tool and can add interest to your card by either leaving them plain or by threading ribbon through them. Again they come in a variety of colours and sizes.

Flowers:  These are probably the most used of all the embellishments. You can get ready made fabric or paper flowers, or you can make your own using punches. Again they are easily fixed to your project, but the secret of getting them right is to always use an odd number of flowers, never group together an even number as it just does not look right.

Ribbon:  This is almost a topic in itself because there are so many different types on the market. Whatever your card making project there will be a ribbon which is just perfect for it. The beauty of it is that ribbon can work well on its own or in conjunction with other elements.

Themed Toppers:  These can be made of Fimo, plastic, rubber, fabric etc and are miniature items such as butterflies, baby items etc.

Perhaps the best thing about embellishments is that they do not cost a fortune, in fact if you are just starting out making greetings cards you may even have things around the home which will successfully transform a card. What about that old cardigan you no longer wear – the buttons could look good on a card?  What about the ribbon from the box of chocolates you got for your birthday -  could that be used? Once you start to use embellishments in your handmade card making you will start to keep an eye out for suitable things you can recycle.

Working With Embellishments:

One of the problems that new card makers seem to come up against is that they either do not use any embellishments on their cards or they use too many!

When working on a card making project you should consider what an embellishment will add to your work. Do not just pile as many embellishments as you can onto the card! Similarly if you are used to just producing a flat card try working with  some card making designs with embellishments.

If you are unsure about which embellishments to buy you could consider starting off by making your own paper embellishments.

The dictionary states that “embellish” means “to make beautiful with ornaments; to decorate” and that is exactly what you should be trying to do when using embellishments in your creative card making. Before you actually stick anything down onto the card move your chosen elements around to make sure that you are putting them into the right position – add some different elements and then try taking some away. The more card making you do the more your eye will instinctively know what works well and what does not.

When trying to decide what colour of embellishments to use just remember to apply the same rules that you would normally use in your card making.

Embellishments work on all manner of cards but especially when you are birthday card making or making handmade Christmas Cards.  In fact you can even consider making your own easy flock embellishments which will look good on Christmas Cards.

If you are short on cash why not consider getting your card making and scrap booking embellishments from around the house – root around in drawers, cupboards etc and you will be amazed at what you will find to use.

What you should bear in mind is that the embellishments which you use in card making are not exclusive to making greetings cards they can also be used when scrap booking .
